Dr. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal

Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, graduate and post graduate from King George Medical College, Lucknow did his nephrology specialization from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1987. Since then he is working in the same department and currently is Professor and Head, department of nephrology in AIIMS since 2009.

Kidney diseases, particularly acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) contribute to more than 10,000 patients per million populations in India. These are not only serious diseases but also involves significant finances of the patient and family. While working at AIIMS in last 37 years, during various media briefing, radio talks and non-nephrology meetings, significant lacunae in general knowledge about kidney disease in general public became obvious.

While I started responding to people’s concern related to kidney diseases on email, it was prominent that there is serious lack of awareness about normal kidney function as well as kidney diseases not only in lay man but also in other educated professionals including policy makers.

This website, I hope may help some of the people in society to better understand kidney, diseases of kidneys and how to cope with them.

This website will also help in answering common concerns which every patient of kidney disease usually has in his/her mind related to management of kidney diseases, dialysis, both peritoneal and hemodialysis and kidney transplant.
